Very often wine is the mirror of a winemaker: a happy face is the best visiting card of a good wine.
That is the main idea behind this interesting ebook, which is at the same time a reportage, a sociological investigation and a guidebook throughout a famous wine area between Langhe and Monferrato.
Armando Rotoletti, a portrait photographer who works with the most important national magazines, for the first time describes the social and family contest where Barbaresco originates, blending his photographes with the words of the winemakers.
This project is the first of a series dedicated to the most important areas of italian wine and gastronomy. It discovers a microcosm of only 700 inhabitants, where tradition and everyday life are always linked together.
People content and smiling, hills covered with rows of vines and a sequence of stories narrating an ancient passion: elements which compose a portrait of people able to produce one of the best wines worldwide, while preserving the everlasting beauty of the territory. The moving sequence of characters photographed by Rotoletti, with the backround of a marvellous landscape peppered with tile roofs, pretty little churches and “vineyard architectures”, is crowned with texts and videos where each winemaker reveals his dreams, his expectations and his passions which give a sense to his life.
In this period of wild consumption of territory and progressive erosion of local identities, Rotoletti’s pictures-story thus assumes a preservation value.
A way to fix forever in people’s mind the origin of a territory which has found an enviable balance between past and modernity.
